| Official Study Title |
Measurement of AD Progression with Established Imaging and Biological
Markers |
| Purpose |
The purpose of this study is to determine the utility
of MRI in assessing the progression of Alzheimer's
disease over the course of one year. A structural image
of the brain and standardized neuropsychological testing
will be evaluated at each visit. Investigators propose
that the results obtained from this study will lead
to better outcome measures for use in future treatment
trials. |
| Inclusion Criteria |
Age 55+, MMSE range 18-26, diagnosis of probable AD |
| Exclusion Criteria |
Unable to undergo MRI, history of TIAs or stroke,
uncontrolled hypertension, cardiovascular disease greater
than NY Heart Association Class I, Hachinski greater
than or equal to 4, uncontrolled diabetes, drug/alcohol
abuse, cognitive impairment secondary to depression. |
| Testing |
1-2 hours of neuropsychological testing (annually), blood draw
(at each visit), one hour MRI (at each visit) |
| Frequency of Visits |
Once every six months over a 2 year time period |
| Materials Needed Prior to Evaluation |
Medical records and physician's referral |
