Official Study Title Measurement of AD Progression with Established Imaging and Biological Markers
Conditions Studied Alzheimer's disease (AD)
Purpose The purpose of this study is to determine the utility of MRI in assessing the progression of Alzheimer's disease over the course of one year. A structural image of the brain and standardized neuropsychological testing will be evaluated at each visit. Investigators propose that the results obtained from this study will lead to better outcome measures for use in future treatment trials.
Eligibility  
Inclusion Criteria Age 55+, MMSE range 18-26, diagnosis of probable AD
Exclusion Criteria Unable to undergo MRI, history of TIAs or stroke, uncontrolled hypertension, cardiovascular disease greater than NY Heart Association Class I, Hachinski greater than or equal to 4, uncontrolled diabetes, drug/alcohol abuse, cognitive impairment secondary to depression.
What is Involved?  
Testing 1-2 hours of neuropsychological testing (annually), blood draw (at each visit), one hour MRI (at each visit)
Frequency of Visits Once every six months over a 2 year time period
